Maurice Pate (1894-1965) served on the Commission for Relief of Belgium from 1916 to 1917, and was assistant to the Director of the American Relief Administration in Poland from 1919 to 1922. He was director of the Commission for Polish Relief from 1939 to 1941, and director of the Prisoner-of-War Relief Division of the American Red Cross from 1942 to 1946. He was a member of Herbert Hoover's Famine Emergency Survey of 38 counties in 1946, and served as the first executive director of UNICEF (United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund) from 1947 to 1965.
