Romaine, Howard M., 1942-
Romaine was born in New Iberia, La., and became an activist in the civil rights and antiwar movements of the 1960s in Mississippi, Tennessee, and Georgia. He worked as a free-lance writer, research associate for the Institute for Southern Studies in Atlanta, and on the 1968 and 1972 presidential campaigns of Eugene McCarthy and George McGovern. He later became a lawyer, receiving his law degree from Louisiana State University, and returned to Atlanta.
