Gross, William M. (William Milton), 1908-1972
William Milton Gross (b. Aug. 29, 1908, St. Joseph, Mo.-d. Feb. 2, 1972), U.S. Air Force officer, was commissioned in the Air Corps from West Point in 1934. He was assigned to the Philippines in the years prior to World War II, and later became assistant chief of staff for supply, then intelligence, at the 8th Air Force Staging Area. From 1943 to 1945 he was commanding officer, 1st Combat Wing, 8th Air Force, the commanding general of the 1st Bomb Wing. He retired in 1964.
