Theresa Mary Jackson, the daughter of George A. and Elizabeth Jackson, was born on May 2, 1902, in China, Maine. She received a bachelor's degree in English from the University of Maine in 1924 and a master's degree in European history from Radcliffe College. Following her marriage to Charles R. Hersum in 1927, she lived in Cologne, Germany and later in Budapest . While there she was appointed an intelligence analyst in the office of the Assistant Chief of Staff for Military Intelligence in the War Dept. After World War II, she returned to Washington, D.C. Theresa Jackson Hersum died on Dec. 19, 1960.
