Charleston and Georgetown, S.C. attorney, solicitor in equity, and sheriff. The son of Dr. Theodore Gourdin (d. 1859) and Elizabeth Frances Allston Gourdin (d. 1834), Theodore Samuel Gourdin was born in Georgetown, S.C. and married Mary Jane Walker (1828-1908), daughter of Tandy Walker, in 1847. He was the grandson of William Allston (1772-1848) and Mary Pyatt Allston. For a period he practiced law with Paul Hamilton Waring in the firm of Gourdin & Waring in Charleston, S.C.
