Benjamin Franklin Cummings was born in Vergennes, Vermont, on September 17, 1816. After living in Nauvoo and Winter Quarters, he traveled to Utah in the early 1850s. He participated in the Mormon mission to Salmon River (in present day Idaho), which lasted from 1855 until 1858. He briefly settled in Kansas before moving to Johnson County, Missouri. He died while undergoing an operation in Kansas City on May 6, 1873.
