David Perlman (1920-1980) received B.A., M.S. and Ph. D. degrees from the University of Wisconsin. From 1945-1967 he worked as a microbiologist or microbial biochemist for a number of commercial firms; from 1967 until his death he was Professor of Pharmaceutical Biochemistry at the School of Pharmacy, University of Wisconsin-Madison, serving as Dean from 1968-1975. His primary research interests were antibiotic development and production, and other microbial fermentation processes.
