Chicago Public Library Omnibus Project
Variant namesThe survey, begun in 1936 and officially sponsored by the Chicago Public Library Omnibus Project, was organized by the Illinois Works Projects Administration. The purpose of the project was to translate, transcribe, and index selected news articles that appeared in the foreign language press of Chicago, 1833-1936. The project ended in 1941. Bessie Louise Pierce, a faculty member in the University of Chicago History Department, was an advisor on the project.
