Melchers, Alexander
German baker who immigrated to Charleston, S.C., in 1850 from his native Cloppenburg, Germany; brother of newspaper editor Franz Melchers, of Die Deutsche Zeitung (Charleston, S.C.); Melchers operated a bakery with with J.G. Renken [located at 97 King St., according to Charleston City Directory (1860)].
