Souchon, Edmond, 1841-1924
Dr. Souchon (1841-1924) was born Dec. 1, 1841, in Opelousas, La., of French parents. He studied medicine in Paris, returning to New Orleans after the death of his father. He graduated from the University of Louisiana (an earlier name of Tulane University) in 1867. In 1869, he married Corinne Lavie, and they had three children. Dr. Souchon served on the Board of Administrators of Charity Hospital in the late 19th century, and later became President of the Louisiana State Board of Health. He was a well-known author and lecturer in anatomy and clinical surgery, and was involved in the development of the Tulane University School of Medicine. He died on Aug. 5, 1924. Dr. Souchon (1841-1924) is the grandfather of the New Orleans jazz musician, author and physician, Edmond Suchon (1897-1968).
