John A. DiBiaggio became the tenth president of the University of Connecticut in March 1979, facing inadequate state funding, low morale within the University community, and concerns about the effectiveness of affirmative action programs in employment and in enrollment. While all of DiBiaggio's dreams ere not realized during his term, the University made significant improvements. DiBiaggio resigned his position in 1985 to accept the presidency of Michigan State University.
