J. Walker Austin (1803-1881), realtor, financier, and proprietor, and his wife Euphemia McKinney moved from Missouri to Texas in 1857, along with his daughter, Sallie Ann, and her husband, Archibald J. Rose, known for his efforts with the Texas State Grange. Austin lived and worked in Travis County from 1857 through 1858, and Bastrop County from 1858 through 1860, before settling in San Saba County.
