The Pan American League of Iowa City was founded in 1938 as one of five local branches of the international organization headquartered in Miami, Florida. The League's mission was to broaden mutual appreciation among people of the western hemisphere. The organization worked closely with University of Iowa students and faculty and local Latin American families and sponsored scholarships, community festivals and lectures. The League was financed by annual membership dues.
