Australian playwright / co-producer / costume designer Frances Rouse, is an exhibiting visual artist and widely-published poet whose work has also been broadcast on radio. Frances Rouse was born in Toowoomba, Queensland, Australia. Poetry editor for the Sydney Morning Herald for many years, she has also received two Arts Queensland Grants (1993 and 1997).

Frances began researching and writing 'Counting Icebergs' in 1982. Twice broadcast on ABC Radio National, a later draft received a number of rehearsed public readings (including the New Theatre, Sydney) to enthusiastic response. It was also short listed in the 1997 British Council International New Playwriting Competition. As a visual artist, Frances has also completed a series of 25 gouache paintings, 'The Charts of Mrs Cook', (18th century dresses with references to Cook's voyages during the 17 years of their marriage). They are now in private collections, the State Library of New South Wales and the Australian National Maritime Museum, Sydney.
