Becomes Dane Professor of Law at Harvard Law School. -
September 27, 1870:
Elected as the first Dean of Harvard Law School. -
1895:
Steps down as Dean but continues as Dane Professor of Law. -
1900:
Becomes Dane Professor Emeritus. -
July 6, 1906:
Dies.
