In November 1989, the Bureau of Construction, Florida Division of Recreation and Parks, and the Bureau of Historic Preservation completed a cultural resources survey of nine Florida State Parks constructed by the Civilian Conservation Corps between 1933 and 1942. The survey utilized the criteria for placement of historic properties on the National Register of Historic Places as a basis for site evaluations. The survey results compile an authoritative data bank that complies with both state and federal preservation regulations.

The Historic American Buildings Survey (HABS), initiated in 1933, is the oldest Federal preservation program. It was created as a comprehensive effort to document America's historic places. In 1969, it was joined by the Historic American Engineering Record, which documents industrial landmarks and bridges. Priority in selecting places to be documented is given to sites with national significance or buildings of architectural significance that are being demolished.

The Historic American Buildings Survey/Historic American Engineering Record (HABS/HAER) works cooperatively with state agencies, universities, and historical societies to collect its surveys. The documentation, which includes measured architectural drawings, photographs, and historical reports, is produced in a standard format according to the HABS/HAER guidelines. The Library of Congress is the repository for the documentation. The Bureau of Historic Preservation, which is part of the Division of Historic Resources of the Dept. of State, is the state agency responsible for coordinating the HABS/HAER projects in Florida.
