Crawford, George Addison, 1827-1891,
Politician, journalist, Kansas and Colorado pioneer. Served as Postmaster General of the United States 1853-ca. 1856. Partner in the Fort Scott, Kansas townsite company 1856-1867; served as U.S. Commissioner of Immigration ca. 1867-1880; founder of Grand Junction, Colorado 1880.

Crawford arrived in Leavenworth, Kansas in 1857. He speculated in Indian lands, and become involved in the slave and anti-slave dispute in the Territory of Kansas. Crawford was elected governor of Kansas in 1861, only to have the election declared invalid. In 1871 President U.S. Grant appointed Crawford United States Commissioner for the Centennial. Crawford later founded the town of Grand Junction, Colorado, where he died in 1891.
