Courtney Key joined the Parliamentary Library in Melbourne in 1925, and came with its staff to Canberra in 1927. He was the first representative of the National Library in London (1944-1948), and until 1960 was Deputy National Librarian. When the Parliamentary Library separated from the National Library in 1961, Key returned to full time serviice to the Parliament until his retirement in 1967. Under the Columbo Plan in association with UNESCO, Key, in 1955 surveyed library services in India, Pakistan, Burma and Nepal.
