First Midwest Corporation (Minneapolis, Minn.).
First Midwest had its beginnings in the 1959 incorporation of First Midwest Small Business Investment Company. In 1961 the name of the firm was changed to First Midwest Capital Corporation. A holding company, First Midwest Corporation, was established in 1970, with First Midwest Capital Corporation continuing as its small business investment company (SBIC) subsidiary. In 1985 the directors of First Midwest Corporation voted to liquidate, citing unfavorable 1984 tax law changes, anticipated cuts in Small Business Administration (SBA) loan programs, and expenses involved in reporting to the SBA and the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).
Alan K. Ruvelson, donor of the collection, served as president of the First Midwest companies from 1959 until 1985.
