José María Gil de Partearroyo (1811-1868<), Mexican brigadier general and minister of war and navy, served in the Mexican-U.S. War (1846-48)and was sympathetic to the cause of Benito Juárez during the War of the Reforma (1857-59) and the three-year war known as the European Intervention of 1860-62. In May 1863 he retired from military service after serving for thirty-nine years.
