August Jeremiah Johnson was born on Feb. 4, 1889, in Lake View, Utah County, Utah. He is the son of John Johnson. He served in the Eastern States Mission as a missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints from Nov. 24, 1908 to Feb. 14, 1911. Johnson was married to Ruth Elva Taylor on May 14, 1913 in the Salt Lake Temple. She died on July 4, 1949. August then married Beatrice A. Henderson on Sept. 11, 1950 in the Salt Lake Temple. He was an active church leader, including serving as Bishop of the Lake View Ward from 1936-1941. Johnson's entire life was devoted to farming and dairying. He served as President of the Geneva Dairy Association in Utah from 1940-1945 and as a member of the S.C.E.R.A. Board of Directors from 1941-1957. He served as a member of the Taylor Brothers Quartet for 35 years and as a member of the Mendelssohn Chorus from the time of its organization in 1918 until 1965. Johnson served as Program Chairman of the Stake Old Folks Committee for fifteen years, retiring in 1964, at the age of seventy-five. August J. Johnson died on Feb. 7, 1970.
