Louisiana State University (Baton Rouge, La.). Office of the Dean of Students.

Hide Profile

The Louisiana State University Office of the Dean of Students, currently under the administrative umbrella of Student Life and Academic Services, was established in 1978 by the joining of the offices of the Dean of Men and the Dean of Women. The former had been created in 1926 to administer the non-military aspects of cadet life, while the latter was established in the 1916-1917 school year. Between 1932 and 1942 the Office of the Dean of Student Affairs directly oversaw the two offices of the Dean of Men and the Dean of Women. For the ten-year period that this office was in place, J. Perry Cole held the position of Dean of Student Affairs. After 1942, the position of Dean of Student Affairs was no longer filled, but the Dean of Men and the Dean of Women remained.
