Dowell family
The Dowell family included Dr. Greensville S. Dowell (1822-1881), a prominent Galveston physician who served as dean and professor of surgery at the Galveston Medical College, his first wife, Sallie White Dowell, and their two sons, Shelton and John W. Dowell. Sallie White Dowell was the half-sister of Major George Littlefield (1842-1920), who served in Terry's Texas Rangers and in 1890 organized the American National Bank of Austin.
