Allen, Bertram M., (Bertram Marcellus)

Bertram Marcellus Allen was a private in Company G, 34th Michigan Volunteer Infantry in Cuba during the Spanish American War. Claude L. was the younger brother of Bertram and Mary Nesbitt was their mother. Bertram was wounded in early July 1898 near Santiago, Cuba. He was shot through the jaw and was transported back to the States and eventually to Fort McPherson Hospital. His mother came down from Pontiac, Michigan to care for him and help him return to Michigan. After his return he was in the Michigan National Guard, along with his brother Claude, in the 107th Ordnance Company. By 1928 Bertram was a Technical Sergeant (T/SGT), while Claude was Captain.
