Winthrop "Kelly" Edey was a wealthy New Yorker with a social circle that included Andy Warhol who formed an important collection of clocks and watches. He formed an association with the Frick Collection and penned the catalog to the 1982 exhibition "French clocks in North American collections." On his death he bequeathed both the clock collection and his library to the Frick Collection.
