Jonathan Roberts was born on August 16, 1771, in Norristown, Pennsylvania. He was a United States Representative and Senator from Pennsylvania, apprenticed as a wheelwright, was a member of the State representatives 1799-1800, and a member of the State senate 1807-1811. He was elected as a Republican United States Representative from 1811-1814, a Republican United States Senator from 1814-1821, chairman of the Committee on Claims, Committee to Audit and Control.
The Contingent Expense, Committee on Public Buildings, and he was a member of the State house of representatives from 1823-1826, as well as collector of customs at the port of Philadelphia 1841-1842. Roberts died on July 24, 1854 in King of Prussia, Pennsylvania.
