The Institute of Musical Art (IMA) was founded in 1905 by Frank Damrosch and James Loeb.
It affiliated in 1926 with the Juilliard Graduate School to form the Juilliard School of Music (now The Juilliard School). Although the two schools were fully merged in 1946, the IMA remains a legal entity to the present.
