Barbara Apostolacus Lipscomb of New Jersey was a student of the Woman's College of the University of North Carolina (now The University of North Carolina at Greensboro), graduating in 1949 with a degree in Art. During her time as a student, Lipscomb was active in many clubs and organizations including the Adelphian Society, the Pine Needles Art Staff, Who's Who, Golden Chain, the Art Club, the Wesley Foundation Workers Council, the Daisy Chain, the Dance Group, the Physics Club, the Dance Committee, the Camera Club, and college Golf. She was also a Dorm Representative, Class Vice-President, Class President, Secretary, Dance Chairman, and an Outstanding Senior; being described as having charm, Class Spirit, graciousness, and ambition in the 1949 Pine Needles.
