Irving B. Weber was born December 19, 1900 in Iowa City. He graduated from Iowa City High School in 1918 and then attended the University of Iowa. While attending the University of Iowa Irving became the school's first All-American swimmer before graduating in 1922. After graduating he worked full time at the Sidwell Dairy, where he had worked part time as a janitor since 1918. Weber was an executive and part owner of Sidwell Dairy Company in Iowa City and Russell Ice Cream Company of Cedar Rapids until 1966. After the firm's sale to Sanitary Farms Dairy in Cedar Rapids in 1956, Weber became vice-president and head of ice cream operations. He also helped to found the Quality Chek'd Dairy Products Association in 1944 and served as its president until 1968. In 1973 Weber began writing historical articles about Iowa City, the University of Iowa and Johnson County for the Iowa City Press Citizen newspaper. Eight books of his articles were published by the Iowa City Lions Club. Irving Weber died in 1997.
