Born Marilyn Hughes in Atchison, Kan. on October 24, 1936, she was a graduate of East High School, Denver, Colo. and the University of Colorado at Boulder. In 1961, married lawyer Dudley R. Griggs (1932-1991); later married to Dr. Conrad M. Riley (1913-2005). Griggs Riley taught English in the Denver Public Schools, primarily at Manual High School for more than 30 years. She also conducted extensive research on many people of historic significance to Colo. These materials were later used for her book: High Altitude Attitudes: Six Savvy Colorado Women (2006). She published numerous articles and wrote the script for the Emmy award winning PBS documentary: Thomas Hornsby Ferril, One Mile Five-Foot Tall (1981). Marilyn Griggs Riley died in Denver, Colo. on March 9, 2009.
