DeWitt C. Burkes ( -1959) was a psychiatrist who practiced in Portland, Or. for thirty-one years, beginning in 1928. Dr. Burkes was a certified member of the American boards of neurology and psychiatry, and was very active in the medical field in Oregon. Among his many activities, he served on the Oregon State Board of Health for over sixteen years; on the search committee for the new superintendent of the Dammasch State Hospital; on the Central Inspection Board of the American Psychiatric Association (1954 to 1957); as chairman of the Committee for the Revision of the Oregon State Commitment of the Mentally Ill (1955 to 1956); on the North Pacific District Branch of the American Psychiatric Association (1957 to 1958); on the North Pacific Society of Neurology and Psychiatry (1940 to 1944); and taught at the University of Oregon Medical School for thirty years.
