Historical note: In 1860 the Kentucky General Assembly reorganized the Kentucky Militia into the Active or Volunteer Militia, known as the State Guard; the Enrolled Militia; and the Militia of the Reserve. The Enrolled Militia was to be made up of all able-bodied white men, between the ages of eighteen and forty-five, not already in active service. It was divided by county, and officers were elected for each regimental district. Members of each district came together several times a year for training. The Enrolled Militia could be called to active duty during wartime.
