Bender, James, 1960-
Variant namesBorn in Laurel, Miss., James Bender grew up in a farming community and attended Jones Junior College before serving in the Navy and starting a landscaping business. He was diagnosed as HIV positive in 1987 and devoted himself to educating teenagers and adults about AIDS.
