Mary Ellen Hombs is an author and advocate for the homeless, previously associated with the Community for Creative Non-Violence (CCNV). This organization in Washington, D.C. was originally a group opposed to the Vietnam War and became an advocacy group for the poor and homeless, now providing shelter, meals, and medical care. CCNV also engaged in non-violent social protests to call attention to the plight of the homeless. Mitch Snyder (1943-1990) was an important leader of the group.
