Marckres, Harvey A. (Harvey Austin), ca. 1841-1930.
Harvey A. Marckres, native of Derby, Vt. In the spring of 1861, he was employed by a watchmaker's shop in Peacham. On Apr. 24, 1861, he was among the young men enlisted in a volunteer company to be raised by the city. He was mustered in November 19, 1861 as Private in the 1st Regiment of Vermont Cavalry. The regiment, since June 28,1863 was assigned to the Army of the Potomac, fought in the Gettysburg, Petersburg, and Shenandoah Valley campaigns. Marckres was mustered out in November 1864. In the 1880s, he was a jeweler and watchmaker in Herkimer, N.Y., and by the early 1900s had moved to California. Marckres died in Oakland, Calif. on May 16, 1930 .
