United States. Army. American Expeditionary Forces. Crew.

Hide Profile

The AEF crew was part of a recreational effort following the Armistice in 1918 to keep the troops busy until they could be brought home. The squad trained and raced on the Seine in Paris and at Henley-on-Thames in inter-allied games and regattas in 1919. Members, mostly Army officers, were randomly selected from a number of colleges that had rowing programs. Former Cornell oarsmen were most numerous. The crew members held reunions regularly. In 1979, for their 60th anniversary, surviving members exhibited memorabilia from the crew.
