Biography
Leonard was born on April 6, 1910 in San Diego, California; AB (1935), MA (1936), and Ph.D (1939), UC Berkeley; joined Department of Physics faculty at UCLA in 1941, where he taught and researched the physics of acoustics; his particular interests were in the mechanics of wave motion and the propagation of sound in gases, liquids and solids; the generation and measurement of high intensity sound and noises and ultrasonics; he wrote The adsorption of sound in carbon dioxide by a direct method .
