Elmer Fern Cope was born July 24, 1903 at Ellwood, Indiana. Besides his political leadership Cope worked in other areas to improve labor's image in the community, to increase and improve labor education, to strengthen the Department of Church and Economic Life of the National Council of Churches, and to complete the merger of AFL and CIO agencies in Ohio. In May, 1963, he announced his resignation of his Ohio AFL-CIO office for reasons of health.
