A Pontiac resident since 1962, Anne Russell was born in Daleville, Alabama. An educator, she retired as an Assistant Principal at Pontiac Central High School, the first black female to hold that position in the Pontiac School System. A graduate of Alabama State College and the University of Michigan, she was a member of Newman A.M.E. Church, Delta Kappa Gamma, Delta Sigma Theta, and. was a charter member of the Pontiac Chapter of the Negro Business and Professional Women's Club. She authored and published four books. She also published article Essence, Jet, and the Michigan Chronicle.
