Lady Jane Franklin, neé Griffin, second wife of Sir John Franklin, Lt. Governor of Tasmania, 1836-1843. Lady Franklin took a great interest in the affairs of the colony, made a number of overland journeys in Australia and concerned herself with scientific research, public education and convict welfare.

Lady Franklin, nee Griffin, was the second wife of Sir John Franklin, polar explorer and Lt. Governor of Tasmania, 1836-43. Lady Franklin took a great public interest in the affairs of the colony, made a number of overland journeys in Australia and concerned herself with scientific research, public education and convict welfare.

Lady Jane Griffin Franklin was the second wife of Arctic explorer John Franklin. Henry Martin was president of the Attica and Buffalo Railroad.

Lady Jane Franklin organized several expeditions that sailed to the Arctic in search of her husband, Sir John Franklin, who was lost while looking for the Northwest Passage. She sponsored Capt. McClintock's 1857 expedition, which discovered some artifacts from the Franklin expedition.
