Curtis Arthur Amlund was born in Fargo, North Dakota on November 29, 1927. He served in the U.S. Army from April of 1948 to April of 1952. Dr. Amlund, professor emeritus of Political Science, received his undergraduate and doctorate degrees from the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis in 1952 and 1959 respectively. He initially taught at Wisconsin and Oregon before coming to NDSU in 1961. He taught at NDSU until his "retirement" in 1998, but he continued to teach occasional classes in political science. He has had many articles and books published. Among them are: Federalism in the Southern Confederacy (1966 - Washington: Public Affairs Press) and New Perspectives on the Presidency (1969 - NY: Philosophical Library). In addition, he has received various awards including Blue Key Distinguished Educator (1992), Robert Odney Award (2000), Liberty Bell Award (2000), as well as twice being named a Mortar Board "Preferred Professor." Dr. Amlund passed away on October 30, 2005 at the age of 77 in Fargo, North Dakota.
