Born in Hungary, Hentz emigrated to the United States in 1923 after studying at the Hungarian Royal Academy. With business partner David Marcus, Hentz formed Eta, Inc., a fashionable women's clothing company that specialized in gowns. In the 1940's the company changed its name to Ren-Eta, , and she became known as Madame Eta. She was known for her use of lace and skill in creating designs for petites with minimal tailoring.
