Mildred Washington Calhoun Wick was the great granddaughter of John C. Calhoun and the daughter of Patrick Calhoun and Sarah Williams. The family has ties to Fort Hill, Clemson, South Carolina and Atlanta, Georgia. The Calhouns also lived in New York, New York, San Francisco, California, and Cleveland, Ohio. Wick wrote her autobiography and included such things as her childhood memories.
