The Turpin family settled in Hendricks County, Indiana in the 1830s. Much of the Turpin material relates to the descendants of Henry Turpin, his wife Amelia Ellen Brock, and the Brock family. Ellen's brother Joseph F. Brock moved on to Iowa and Mississippi where he owned watchmaking and jewelry shops. The Glidden family represented in this collection were farmers in Noble County, Ohio. Frank Glidden and his wife Margaret moved to Indiana during the Civil War. Frank was drafted into the Twenty-fifth Indiana Infantry in 1864 and died of wounds in 1865. Two other Gliddens from Ohio, James and Leonard, also served in the Civil War. The Richardson family resided in Ohio. The Warren family resided in Johnson County, Indiana, and are represented by Luke C. and John Weasley Warren. John was a farmer and moved to Iowa in the 1850s. Luke was a cabinetmaker and carpenter. After returning from the Civil War he began a career in the ministry and established numerous churches throughout the state. The Brown family relates to Daniel Brown, Polly M. Brown, and Grace Brown Ayers of Hendricks County, Indiana. The Walker family material relates to Charles, Lydia, Roy, Jean, and Bessie of Johnson County, Indiana.
