Piedmont Junior High School was the first junior high school in North Carolina, built in the 1920s at a cost of over $380,000. At the time, it was a state-of-the-art facility, built on a seven acre plot, and included departmentalized instruction twenty-two classrooms, including science labs, and studios for art and music.
