Eastern Canadian Farm Writers' Association (University of Guelph)

Hide Profile

The Eastern Section of the Canadian Farm Writers Association came into being in Toronto on March 13, 1956. One of its primary objectives was "to promote better understanding between agriculture and all other groups through the medium of radio broadcasting, telecasting and the printed word". Better understanding between urban and rural people was an improtant precept and for the first time many farm writers would be in contact with each other. The Eastern group membership includes farm writers from Ontario, Quebec and the Maritimes. Jim Romahn started with the "Kitchener-Waterloo Record" in 1963 as a University of Western Ontario journalism summer student. After 10 years with Agriculture Canada, he came back to the "Record" where he covered agriculture from 1974 until his retirement in 1994.
