Schmidt, William M.
William M. Schmidt started work in 1940 at the Lincoln-Mercury Division of Ford Motor Company and became chief designer. He worked on the Lincoln Continental, Lincoln Capri, Mercury and the Lincoln Futura show car. Schmidt was instrumental in developing the Lincoln Futura concept design that was used as one of the original Batmobiles in the 1960s television show Batman. In 1955 he became Vice President of Design for Packard Motor Car and in 1957 Executive Stylist for Chrysler. In 1959 he formed his own company, William M. Schmidt Associates. This company did custom design work.
