American loyalist; resident of Cambridge, Mass.; volunteered with British forces, serving at Battle of Bunker Hill under the command of Gen. William Howe; also served during the capture of New York, battles at Trenton, Princeton, Brandywine, Monmouth, and other campaigns. He married Mary Badger in 1779 and with his wife, embarked on a ship bound for Great Britain, arriving at Portsmouth in Feb. 1779. The family remained in Bristol, Chester, and other locations in England until 1784 when they sailed to Ireland where Inman was assigned to a post in Dublin. He returned to England the following year and in 1788 sailed for Grenada. During the voyage, the entire family became very ill and in early 1789 Inman died, after which his family returned to Cambridge.
