Wolf was a noted Alabama botanist and lay brother of the Order of St. Benedict.
Born in Regensburg, Germany in 1872, he came to the U.S. in 1897. Took vows as Benedictine lay brother in 1901 and served as monastery tailor at St. Bernard Abbey in Cullman, Ala. Amateur interest in botany led him to study under Michael Morgan and take correspondence courses from Catholic University. Conducted lively professional correspondence with Dr. Roland Harper, University of Alabama botanist. Wolf was a prolific field worker and discovered several new plant species native to Alabama.
