Leiris, Michel, 1901-1990
Variant namesMichel Leiris was born in Paris. He became a vital force in the Surrealist movement, but left the movement in the late 1920s. In addition to his work as a writer, editor, and art historian, Leiris was an active ethnologist and anthropologist, notably in Africa.
